HERE IS A LIST OF FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS REGARDING MASSAGE THERAPY
What exactly is involved in a massage therapy session?
You will be asked to fill out a brief client intake form before your first massage that provides me with your personal contact information, general health and immediate needs. This will help to give me an idea of how to provide the best massage possible to get the best possible results.
I will take you to my massage room which is appointed with a massage table, soft lighting and relaxing atmosphere. I will demonstrate draping procedures for you so you know how I will protect your modesty at all costs. A top sheet is provided for you to cover yourself with or men can request a towel if they prefer. At no time will any area be exposed or touched that would normally be covered by a modest bikini.
When you are comfortable, I will re-enter the room and begin the massage.
Initially, I will begin by placing my hands on your shoulders for a few seconds to make connection with you. Then I will fold the sheet down to where it exposes your back only. I will then apply some massage oil or lotion (scented or unscented depending upon the clients preference) to the entire back using long flowing strokes. Once the oil has been applied, I will begin a very Muscle Specific massage that will help release tension and sore spots in each muscle group.
I ask that the client communicate with me regarding pain level and sore spots using a pain scale of 1 to 10, 1 being "touch" and 10 being "I'm going to come off the table and deck you". We should never get above a 6 or 7 in order to get the most benefit from your massage treatment.
Once I am through with your back, I will fold the sheet back up to cover your back and then move to your right or left leg, uncover only that leg and repeat the same massage procedure on the foot, leg and gluteal muscles (based upon client comfort). This is repeated with the opposite leg and then I hold the sheet up between you and I so you can turn over and the sheet is placed over you once again. Ladies are provided a towel to cover their breasts before the sheet is put down for additional comfort.
Once you are comfortable, I will begin by doing a scalp and face massage, neck and upper back massage. I will then move on to each arm and hand.
Depending upon client comfort, I usually provide massage to the pectoral muscles (men) and the stomach as well. This is done after the sheet has been moved down to waist level. Once complete, the sheet is replaced and I move on to the front of each leg massaging the foot and quadriceps.
This usually will complete the massage unless there is additional time left or there are specific areas the client wishes to revisit.
What am I supposed to do during the massage?
RELAX and focus on your breathing. Communicate with me regarding any areas that are sensitive or that you would like for me to give more attention to. Some clients even fall asleep during their massage and that is fine too!
What do you bring with you to my hotel or home?
I bring a massage table, professional massage lotion or oil, sheets and relaxing music. (If you have an I-Pod or MP3 player with music you would prefer to use I am open to that as well. Whatever helps you relax the best!)
What's so important about going to a Licensed Massage Therapist?
In Florida, a Licensed Massage Therapist must attend a minimum of 600 hours of in-depth training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, theory/assessment/practice, adjunct natural healing techniques, business practices and professional ethics. They must then take a rigorous State examination and pass each of those sections in order to receive their State License.
Massage Therapy has come a long way in becoming a legitimate alternative health practice. However, there are many individuals who advertise that they provide massage who are not licensed and have not received the necessary training to protect you against any contraindications that you may be experiencing. They do not have the training in anatomy to know how to address any of your complaints and can actually do things that can harm you.
In Florida, it is ILLEGAL to receive payment for massage without a State of Florida License. Licensed Massage Therapists have to list their Massage License Number in all advertising they use. LET THE BUYER BEWARE!
To check out if someone is currently licensed or if there are any disciplinary procedures listed against them here is a link to the State of Florida Website. Just copy the link to your browser and hit enter.
